Bridges & Adhesive Bridges
Bridges
A bridge replaces a missing tooth or teeth using adjacent teeth for support. They are usually made of porcelain bonded to precious metal, yellow gold or white gold depending on its position in the mouth.
Although a bridge may seem costly they can be a wise investment that will give many years of good service improving your appearance and bite. A bridge uses the considerable skill of the dentist and technician. It is similar to ordering a piece of hand made jewellery.
The bridge needs to be cleaned every day to prevent problems such as bad breath and gum disease.
We will instruct you how to use special ‘super floss’ to clean the bridge and strongly recommend use of a sonic tooth brush to help reach places a hand held brush cannot reach easily.
Adhesive bridges
Adhesive or ‘stick-on’ bridges are a simple way to replace a missing tooth with minimal or no drilling! The replacement tooth is attached to a bracket or wing which is glued to a natural tooth with special strong dental cement.
The bracket can be ceramic or metal. Aesthetically they are very good, much cheaper, non-invasive, totally reversible treatment.
